Our Chocolates
As far back as 500 B.C.E., the ancient Maya and their ancestors enjoyed the taste of chocolate—even at every meal! Hieroglyphs on Mayan ceramics and murals depict chocolate being served to rulers and gods. In fact, the scientific name for the cacao tree is Theobroma cacao—"food of the gods." Quetzal Cocoa takes pride in its ancient Mayan heritage, and delights in creating fine chocolates based on the Mayas' secret recipes. To that end, we gladly present you with “The Original Food of the Gods!”
Many people are unaware that cocoa beans come in different varieties, much like coffee beans. Criollos, sometimes called the "prince of cacao," produce the highest grade beans. When it comes to chocolate, you can't get a richer flavor than from criollo beans. That's why Quetzal Cocoa exclusively uses criollos in all of our products. True, the beans are more expensive, but we believe the exquisite taste is well worth it.
Other chocolate makers insert artificial ingredients into their chocolates, usually to save on costs. Unfortunately, the artificial additives make it waxy, gritty and super-sweet, not to mention being less healthy than natural ingredients. All-natural chocolate, on the other hand, is rich, smooth and complex. You won't find any synthetic substances in Quetzal Cocoa's chocolates, not a single one. We only use 100% pure, all-natural ingredients, and absolutely no preservatives or artificial flavorings.
